Back to School Time Requires Alert Drivers
K-12 students across North and Northeast Iowa are heading back to school.
Chickasaw County Sheriff Ryan Shawver alerts motorists that the streets will be busy again with students walking to and from school. There’s also increased traffic by students driving to school and back.
Drivers should also take note of those intersections controlled by crossing guards.
Shawver says that respect definitely extends to school buses as well.
According to the Iowa DOT, the offense for going around a stopped school bus is a simple misdemeanor, with a fine ranging from $345 to $930. You could also be put in jail for 30 days and have your license suspended for 30 days. You will also be required to complete Iowa’s Driver Improvement Program.
