Traveling Wolf Center Coming to the Hanson Nature Center

The Friends of Winnebago County Conservation Foundation, in conjunction with the Winnebago
County Conservation Board, will be hosting a traveling exhibit at the Hanson Nature Center during the month of September. The exhibit is entitled, “Wolves and Wild Lands” and comes from the International Wolf Center in Ely, MN. The display will be open to the public throughout the month.
“Wolves and Wild Lands” brings the compelling stories of wolves and their relationship with humans
to museums and other institutions nationwide. The exhibit is comprised of six preserved taxidermy
specimens, each presented in its human and natural-history context. Species included are
the Arctic Wolf, Mexican Wolf, Coyote, Red Wolf, Rocky Mountain Wolf, and Great Plains Wolf.
Graphics provide regional information about each of these animals, providing a framework for in-depth discussion. Featured topics include the most recent research and population statistics, while also including the human perspective on what it means to live with, or without, wolves.
After Labor Day, the Hanson Nature Center will also begin regular hours. The center will be open on
Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 PM. It will also be open the first and third Saturday of every month from 1:00-4:00 PM. The center will continue to be open at other times, as well, if someone is in the office. If there are times that, due to scheduling issues, the center will have to be closed when it is scheduled to be open, those closings will be posted on the WCCB web site and on social media. In the future, the open hours will expand as more volunteers are recruited.
The “Wolves and Wild Lands” exhibit will be open to the public, free of charge, when the nature
center is open. There will also be an educational and interactive Zoom program from the International Wolf Center sometime during September. More information will be available about that exciting event soon!
