Worth County Questions Missing Check

The Worth County Board of Supervisors met on Monday and an issue concerning a sizable missing check was addressed by County Supervisor Enos Loberg of District 3. The check was originally part of a county claim motion earlier this year. Loberg asked the board about the need for an extra motion to issue another check.

Worth County Auditor Jackie Backhaus was quick to clarify what the intention of the reissuing of the check was for.

Loberg pressed the board and Backhaus about the need to have the item on the agenda.

He was briefed that the original check was no longer valid and that the board needed to approve the issuance of a new check.

Loberg also pointed out that the fund where the check came out of, only had $5,000 in it. The check was for $70,000. Backhaus explained that she was still looking for information about the check and asked that the current claims not involve issuing a replacement the missing check. The board agreed and tabled the check issue to allow for Backhaus to get more information on what happened.
