Patchwork projects starting on Interstate 35 in north-central Iowa this week (VIDEO)

MASON CITY — A couple of new road maintenance projects are starting on Interstate 35 here in north-central Iowa.
Pete Hjelmstad with the Iowa Department of Transportation says starting this week and over the next couple of months, motorists will be seeing work start on Interstate 35. Work this week is beginning south of Clear Lake. “Down in the Dows area, it would be going from Dows up to the Cerro Gordo County line, we’re going to be doing a microsurfacing project there. So you’ll be seeing some lane closures, no detours or anything like that. Just be aware that there will be some lane closures going on.”
Hjelmstad says next week, motorists will see some more work on the interstate in Cerro Gordo County. “In the Clear Lake area, probably from about where the interstate and the Avenue, that interchange where you can get off to go east on the Avenue, up north to about B-20, some patching is going to start in that area because we are going to be resurfacing that area as well.”
Hjelmstad says be aware over the next couple of months of some newer projects that the DOT is doing and plan accordingly. “You will be seeing work on the interstate probably from Dows up to the Minnesota border over the next couple of months, between patching and resurfacing and some microsurfacing. That’s something to look out for. Once again, there won’t be any detours or anything like that, there will be just some lane closures.”
Hjelmstad says you can always keep track of road construction projects by heading to 511ia.org
