City of Mason City extends search for new public works director

MASON CITY — The City of Mason City has extended its search for a new public works director after the recent retirement of Bill Stangler.
City Administrator Aaron Burnett says the city wants to extend the deadline to increase the applicant pool for the position. “It is one of the highest priorities that we have is making sure that position gets filled with a highly qualified individual.”
Burnett says Deputy City Administrator Brent Hinson is handling the public works director duties on an interim basis. “Well prepared to do that. He’s met with all the managers to try and make sure there’s no interruption, that communication flows back and forth and all those projects and services continue. Obviously with the huge loss with Bill Stangler’s retirement, but I think he’ll do a good job in the interim until we get that position filled.”
Stangler retired earlier this summer after five decades on the job.
