Name of woman killed in Avenue of the Saints accident between Mason City and Nora Springs released

MASON CITY — The Iowa State Patrol over the weekend released the identity of the woman killed in an accident on the Avenue of the Saints near the Cerro Gordo-Floyd county line.

The Iowa State Patrol was called to the 195 mile marker of US Highway 18 at about 12:35 on the morning of September 4th, where an eastbound vehicle had left the roadway and entered the median for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck a bridge pillar and became fully engulfed in flames.

The State Patrol said the vehicle was occupied by one person who was found dead, but they were not able to immediately identify the person. They now say that the victim was 29-year-old Samantha Grant, who was living in Waterloo but was a native of Mason City.

The Cerro Gordo, Floyd and Worth County sheriff’s offices assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
