Lake Mills girl dies from injuries sustained in Labor Day weekend UTV accident

LAKE MILLS — A Lake Mills girl who had been hospitalized after a recent UTV accident has died.

The Iowa State Patrol was called out at about 5:30 PM on Saturday, August 31st to a private pond. They said the driver’s side tires of a 2018 Polaris Ranger had entered the bank of the pond, causing the UTV to roll onto its side.

11-year-old Mae Helgeson was pinned under the UTV. Life-saving measures were performed with Helgeson being transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Minnesota for treatment.

An obituary posted on the Schott Funeral Homes website states that Helgeson died at St. Mary’s on Monday from injuries sustained in the accident.
