Sanitary sewer, water main flushing projects get underway today in Mason City

MASON CITY — There’s a pair of sanitary sewer projects in Mason City scheduled to start today that will have an impact on traffic. South Carolina Avenue between 3rd and 4th Southeast will be closed for about two weeks. The southbound lane of South Kentucky Avenue will be closed utilizing a “stop please alternate” sign around that work zone. Also in that area, 6th Place Southeast and Kentucky Court will be closed to through traffic. The duration of work in that area is expected to last about a week. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this time.
== The City of Mason City has also announced that water mains in the northeastern quadrant of town will start to be flushed. All areas east of Federal Avenue and north of State Highway 122 will have water main flushing between today and Friday September 27th. Water customers may notice some discoloration of the water after the mains have been flushed, but the water is safe to drink. Caution should be used when washing clothing because discolored water may cause staining.
