Mason City man sentenced to six years on federal firearms charge

SIOUX CITY — It’s six years in prison for a Mason City man who pleaded guilty to a federal firearms charge.

46-year-old Lance Kohler was arrested last December after he lost control of a vehicle he was driving in the 4000 block of 210th Street near Clear Lake. Kohler after the accident in an interview with an officer admitted to possessing about 13 grams of methamphetamine as well as a loaded .380 caliber pistol and numerous hypodermic needles. Lab results later confirmed that Kohler had meth and cocaine in his system.

Kohler pleaded guilty in May to one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was recently sentenced by US District Judge Leonard Strand to 72 months in prison to be followed by a two-year term of supervised release.
