NIACC roundup from Wednesday September 18th

MASON CITY — The NIACC volleyball team outlasted Ellsworth for a three sets to two victory on Wednesday night at the NIACC gym in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play. NIACC dropped the first set 17-25, won the next two sets 25-13 and 25-22, lost the fourth set 17-25, then took the final set 15-12. NIACC had been swept by the Panthers back on August 30th in Sioux City. The Trojans were led by freshman Megan Tobin with 13 kills, three blocks and two digs. Freshman Hannah Brinkman had eight kills, five digs and 10 blocks. NIACC is now 8-11 overall and 2-1 in the conference and will return to action on Friday in a non-conference matchup at the Luther College JV in Decorah. 

 

GILLETTE, WYOMING — The NIACC men’s soccer team topped Gillette College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Gillette Wyoming. NIACC received goals from Elia Salvatore Antonini and Victor Hugo Januario with assists from Kobi Jones and Pablo Salas. NIACC is now 7-1 overall and will open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play at home against Western Iowa Tech on Saturday with the match scheduled for a 1 o’clock start. 

 

CLINTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS — The NIACC women’s soccer team tied Kaskaskia College of Clinton County Illinois 1-1 in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon. Kaskaskia College led 1-0 at the half but the Trojans tied the contest in the 50th minute on a goal from sophomore Karly Holm. NIACC is 2-2-1 on the season and will also open up conference play on Saturday when they host Western Iowa Tech at about 3:30.
