Georgia man dead after two semis collided in rural Mitchell County Thursday

STACYVILLE — A Georgia man is dead after a semi-versus-semi accident in rural Mitchell County on Thursday.

The Iowa State Patrol says they were called to the accident in between Stacyville and Toeterville at the intersection of 465th Street and Kirkwood Avenue at about 12:35 Thursday afternoon. A semi driven by 43-year-old Senika Range of McDonough Georgia was southbound on Kirkwood when it failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, entering the intersection where it was struck on the passenger side by a semi driven by 24-year-old Christo Van Der Linde of Stacyville.

The passenger in the first semi, 60-year-old Eric Mitchell of Atlanta, was ejected from the vehicle, while the semi driven by Van Der Linde rolled over and spilled a load of corn.

Mitchell was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester where he was later pronounced dead. Range and Van Der Linde were transported for treatment to the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.
