Mason City man indicted on federal drug charges

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has been indicted on federal drug charges. 33-year-old Todd Sutton was arrested in late July after a traffic stop.
Court records state that law enforcement pulled Sutton over near the intersection of 20th and South Monroe in the early morning hours of July 27th after observing the vehicle he was driving had a headlight out. Sutton was arrested at the scene for driving while barred, but as he was being booked into jail, staff allegedly found nearly two ounces of methamphetamine in his possession.
Sutton was originally facing state-level charges of a Class B felony drug violation, possession of contraband in a correctional institution and driving while barred and was being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a total of $32,000 cash-only bond.
Sutton was due in court for a pre-trial conference today, but court records show prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss on Tuesday, stating that Sutton had been indicted on federal charges.
