Cross Country Roundup — Mason City girls, boys win Riverhawk Invite, new team rankings out

MASON CITY — Mason City High took both team titles at the Riverhawk Invitational cross country meet on Tuesday.

The Riverhawk boys had six runners in the top ten as they took the team title with 26 points. Waverly-Shell Rock had three in the top six to finish second with 37. Newman was third with 72. Gage Mueller of Waverly-Shell Rock won the boys race in a time of 19:09. Mason City’s Ben Jensen was runner-up in 19:16 with teammate Elijah Bahls third in 19:50.

On the girls side, Mason City had the top three runners and eight runners in the top 13 as they cruised to winning the team title with 19 points. Newman was second with 84 points, followed by Hampton-Dumont-CAL third with 93. Brogan Evans won the race in 19:58, followed by teammates Janae Hansen in 20:04 and Savannah Davis in 20:14. Newman’s Avery Kelly was fourth in 21:02.

== The Mason City High girls are ranked 19th in Class 4A

== The Clear Lake girls are ranked #17 in Class 3A

== The Forest City girls are ranked #4 and the Osage girls are ranked #20 in Class 2A

== In the 2A boys rankings, Forest City is #10

== The Lake Mills boys are the top-ranked team in Class 1A, while Newman is 19th and North Butler 20th in the 1A boys rankings
