Ribbon cutting Friday for The Legacy Golf Course at the 19 in Mason City

MASON CITY — The Legacy Golf Course at the 19 in Mason City will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow to mark the completion of a major renovation project. Pritchard Companies purchased the former Mason City Country Club property in 2022.
Chief marketing officer Matt Bradley says with the Country Club course history in mind, the renovation was directed at addressing major issues while enhancing the course’s unique golden age character. “What they actually did was they got in touch with Kevin Norby, who had been approached by the Mason City Country Club about a decade ago or more to develop some plans to help with the drainage issue that people had been dealing with for years, and also to modernize it while keeping the historic Tom Bendelow 1915 design and the aesthetics of the historic aspects of the course in place.”
Bradley says there’s been improvements of some sort on every hole of the course, including expanding a lot of the tee boxes with the help of professional golfer John Daly. “The legendary John Daly is a family friend of the Pritchards, and so he came out to check out the course when they took over the ownership in 2022. He had some ideas for it, and one of them was to install ‘Daly Tees’. These are further set back within the tee box to extend the length of the hole for the long-ball hitters, and some of these holes are now up to 585 yards. On the other side of this, we did put in forward tees to help all levels of skill be able to have a good day out at the course.”
Bradley says there have been other adjustments made to the course. “All the bunkers have been reformatted with brand new, top-quality sand so the golfers will have a much better experience. We’ve put in some ponds to help with that drainage, and that’s really added a lot to the aesthetics of the course. Then there was a realignment of hole 10 and 11. What we’ve done is take hole 10, moved the green and shifted hole 11 to become a water hole. Now it’s a par three that you shoot over the pond. It’s beautiful looking, it’s stunning. It looks like any PGA course.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 3:30 Friday afternoon at the course located at 3331 19th Street Southwest.
