Mason City man being sent to prison after violating probation on drug conviction

MASON CITY — A Mason City man originally given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to a drug charge is now being sent to prison after violating probation.
39-year-old Daniel Kleve was arrested in March 2022 after officers executed a search warrant on a car he rented and found a clear plastic bag containing 5.83 grams of methamphetamine.
Kleve was charged with a Class B felony-level drug charge, but as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to the Class C felony of manufacture, deliver or possess with the intent to deliver meth. Prosecutors recommended and a district judge agreed to a ten-year suspended prison sentence and five years probation.
Prosecutors filed a motion to revoke his probation and impose the full sentence after Kleve violated the terms of his probation three different times.
During a hearing on Monday in Cerro Gordo County District Court, District Judge Chris Foy imposed the prison sentence with credit for any time he had already served in this case. Kleve remains in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
