Burn bans in effect in three north-central Iowa counties

DES MOINES — With one of the driest Septembers on record, there are 16 counties in Iowa that are currently under a burn ban, including three in north-central Iowa.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s office, Floyd, Hancock and Wright counties are under burn bans in our listening area. Conditions in those areas are such that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property.

Northwestern Iowa, including Kossuth County, is under a Fire Weather Watch this afternoon through the evening hours for very high to extreme fire danger. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and outdoor burning is not recommended in those areas.
