Lorraine Marie Hoffman, 80, Clear Lake

Lorraine Marie Hoffman, 80, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. North, Clear Lake, with Rev. Melinda McVey officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Lorraine was born April 26, 1944 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Ernest E. and Hortense(Strombom) Smith. Lorraine was a proud graduate of Clear Lake High School and continued her education at North Iowa Community College and Hamilton’s Business College, where she studied tourism. Raised on her family farm, Lorraine developed a love for horseback riding, a passion she carried throughout her life. She continued to support her husband Larry on their farm and cherished their life together.

While working at Lake Crest Restaurant, Lorraine met Larry Hoffman and the two were united in marriage on September 8, 1963, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Later Lorraine also worked at Neiman’s Limited, Ventura, IA.

Always finding time to give back to her community, Lorraine was actively involved as a Girl Scouts assistant leader and also helped coach her local softball teams. She was a talented seamstress, baker, and cook, known for creating warm, welcoming meals for her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping and had a particular fondness for flowers, with a special love for anything purple. Lorraine also enjoyed her time with her friends from Aqua Belles swim group.

She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Hoffman; her children, Scott (Amanda) Hoffman and Wendy (Tom) Mills; her grandchildren, MacKenzie Hoffman, Kaylee and Emma Hodnefield, Tristan and Tate Hoffman, Mark (Sarah) Ostroot, Alexandra “Alex” Ostroot and her fiancé Curtis Telsrow, Konner Mills (Jenna Grimmius), Nick (Ashley) Mills, Brayden Mills and his fiancée Michelle Crane. Lorraine was also blessed with great-grandchildren Kiara Mills, Jerry, Emrie, and Onyx Mills, Kyla Telsrow, and Orion Ostroot. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Keith Dhondt and Art (Janette) Hoffman, along with many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest E. and Hortense Smith; her parents-in-law, LaVonne and Philip Hoffman; her sister-in-law, Judy Dhondt; and her daughter, Holly Hoffman (2022).
