NIACC Roundup — volleyball falls at Southeastern; DeLong conference golfer of week

Southeastern 3-1 NIACC (25-13, 28-26, 23-25, 25-16)

NIACC now 9-15 overall and 2-4 in the conference and will host the Grand View and St. Ambrose junior varsity teams as part of the NIACC tournament on Saturday

 

— The NIACC men’s soccer team beat Hawkeye Community College 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon on the NIACC campus. Kobi Jones scored the lone Trojan goal on a free kick from 40 yards out in the first minute of the second half. The NIACC men are now 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Trojans return to action next Wednesday at home against Northeast Community College. 

 

— The NIACC women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Hawkeye. Hawkeye scored the lone goal with five minutes remaining in the contest. NIACC freshman goalkeeper Nadia Kaiser stopped 11 shots on goal in the contest. The NIACC women are now 4-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They’ll return to action on Monday as they travel to Cottleville Missouri for a non-conference contest against St. Charles Community College. 

 

— NIACC’s Karly Holm has been selected as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference’s Division II women’s soccer player of the week for the week of September 23rd through the 29th. The sophomore from Two Harbors Minnesota scored six goals and handed out two assists in NIACC victories over Scott Community College and Northwest Iowa Community College. Holm had five goals and two assists in the contest against Northwest Iowa and also had a goal against Scott. Holm leads the Trojans with 11 goals and is tied for third on the team with five assists. 

 

— NIACC’s Meghan DeLong was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference’s women’s golfer of the week for the week of September 23rd through the 29th. The Clear Lake freshman last week won the Waldorf University Fall Invitational in Albert Lea on Sunday with a career-best round of 72. She placed fourth at the DMACC Jim Currell Invitational in Boone with a round of 83 back on Friday. It’s the second time this season that DeLong has been honored as the conference golfer of the week, as she had won the same honor for the week prior.
