Charles City school placed on lockdown due to fleeing suspect nearby

CHARLES CITY — A Charles City school was placed on lockdown on Thursday afternoon due to a suspect nearby that was fleeing from law enforcement.

The Charles City Police Department in a social media post stated that they asked the Immaculate Conception School to lockdown their facility as they were dealing with a rapidly evolving situation in that general area with a person fleeing officers on foot, heading towards the school. The statement says police did take the subject into custody on the Immaculate Conception ball diamonds just southeast of the school.

Police then notified the school and they lifted the lockdown order, which they say was done on an abundance of caution for the safety of their students and staff.
