Hampton police charge juvenile after alleged threat at high school; authorities investigate separate threat

HAMPTON — The Hampton Police Department has announced they’ve charged an unnamed 16-year-old juvenile with threat of terrorism and first-degree harassment from an alleged threat that took place on Monday at Hampton-Dumont High School. Chief Mark Morrison said in a written statement on Thursday afternoon that the safety of students is the department’s number one priority and they thank the students that came forward with information. Morrison says the department takes all threats seriously and investigates them as such. He says they take all actions necessary to maintain the safety of our schools and the community.
== Hours after the announcement regarding charges against that juvenile, Hampton-Dumont Community School District superintendent Aaron Becker sent out a separate message to parents regarding a social media message that was circulating last night in regards to a threat at the high school. A new message sent out this morning stated that this threat was deemed as not credible by local and state law enforcement agencies. Becker also stated that they respect the decisions that parents have to make, and they continue to feel that the safest place for them to be each day is in the district’s school buildings.
