Police say shooting threat at Mason City High School ruled as not credible

MASON CITY — Authorities say a school shooting threat at Mason City High School has been ruled as not credible.
Mason City police chief Jeff Brinkley says Mason City High School officials contacted the police department this morning about a social media post made regarding a school shooting threat at the school during second or third period, with the original post being from SnapChat.
Police immediately contacted state and local partners about the threat and learned that the post surfaced on Thursday elsewhere in the area. Brinkley says authorities were already aware of it and investigating the threat. He says as such, there’s no credible threat to students, staff or the community at this time.
Brinkley thanked students and parents who sent the social media post to school officials, as their prompt call to the police department allowed them to quickly follow-up and gather additional information.
Anyone with information about this post can contact the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3000.
