Charles City, IA 50616; in his memory.
Marlan was born on May 16, 1945, in Hampton, Iowa, to Robert “Gub” and Berneda
(Morgan) Masteller. Marlan graduated from West Hancock High School in Britt, Iowa,
and chose to pursue his passion for art by attending The Art Institute of Minnesota.
Marlan moved to California in 1970 and met Bonnie Cannou. The two were married and
later returned to Iowa to start a family. They were blessed with two children, Morgan and
Mia. Marlan again pursed his love of art, opening his own gallery, Custom Frame &
Gallery in Clear Lake. Thanks to Marlan’s eye for design and increasing requests for
large scale projects, his business would eventually transition into Masteller’s Corporate
Art. Marlan’s creativity and artistic talent were celebrated through his own work,
particularly his ink art, which was showcased annually in Scottsdale, Arizona, locally in
Clear Lake and can also be found in many local homes and businesses.
Marlan met Terri Riley at the Surf Ballroom, in 1995 and they were later married in 2001.
Together they enjoyed running his corporate art business, traveling to art shows and
flea markets, fishing, listening to music, and spending quality time with family. Marlan
loved Jesus, his family, and his dog, Louie.
Marlan is survived by his loving wife, Terri Masteller of Clear Lake; his children, Morgan
(Heather) Masteller of Belmond; Mia Masteller of Mason City; his grandchildren Quintin
Masteller, Paxton Masteller, and Dahlia Masteller; his nieces, Amber (Tori) Masteller and
Angie (Ryan) O’Brien; along with several brothers-and sisters-in-law. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Robert and Berneda Masteller, and his brother, Marshall
Masteller.
