State Patrol identifies Minnesota man as victim of Sunday’s fatal crash in Worth County

KENSETT — A New Ulm Minnesota man has been identified as the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Worth County on Sunday.

The Iowa State Patrol says a vehicle was traveling southbound near the mile marker 208 exit ramp, or the Kensett exit at County Road A-38, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, with the vehicle going into the median, through the cable barrier, and struck the bridge pillar.

The driver, 33-year-old Samuel Poquette, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted in their investigation of the accident by the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Kensett and Northwood fire departments, and the Worth County Medical Examiner.

The Worth County accident was one of at least four accidents over the weekend reported by the Iowa State Patrol that claimed the lives of seven people. Two people were killed late on Friday night in a two-vehicle accident in Mahaska County; three people were killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle accident on US Highway 20 in Delaware County; and one person is dead after a single-vehicle accident early this morning in Washington County.
