Matthew Hall, 49

Matthew Anthony Hall, 49, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, in Mason City,
Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428, with Deacon Jim Wolf officiating. A viewing
will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Sacred
Heart Catholic Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Ida Grove, Iowa; with Rev.
Richard Ball officiating.

Matthew was born on January 30, 1975, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Terry and Joan (Mein) Hall. He
attended school in Webster City, Iowa, and graduated from Vinton-Shellsburg High School, excelling
in football and baseball. He received a baseball scholarship to Iowa Central Community College in
Fort Dodge before transferring to North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, where he
earned his Associate of Arts degree.

A passionate sports fan, Matthew followed the Iowa State Cyclones and Nebraska Cornhuskers and
enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors during his younger years. He was a lover of
music, with his favorites including Guns N’ Roses, Boston, 38 Special, and old school country.
Matthew was very quick-witted and could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He was a protector of
loved ones and had a caring heart for those in need, both people and animals.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Terry Hall (Mai Bui) and Joan Hall (Gary Hensley); his sister,
Katie (David) Tesnar; his brother, Jeff (Janelle) Hall; his nieces and nephews whom he adored,
Victor Tesnar, Chanse Hall, Nolan Hall, and Kensi Hall, as well as an expectant nephew on the way.
He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Edith Mein and Otto and Ellen Hall; his
sister, Carrie Hall; and several aunts and uncles.

Throughout his life, Matthew faced mental health challenges, including depression and
schizoaffective disorder, which eventually led to chronic kidney disease. Despite these difficulties,
his love for God, family, and friends was evident. He frequently attended services at Epiphany
Parish (Holy Family Catholic Church) in Mason City and was always willing to lend a hand to those
less fortunate.

www.bbrfoundation.org. The family supports this organization as much of the research they fund
goes to new technologies and next-generation therapies, as opposed to traditional “pill” research
that sometimes seems to only mask the illness and result in the individual feeling more ill.
