Candle cited as cause of Mason City house fire

MASON CITY — A midday fire in Mason City on Monday caused damage to a home.
The Mason City Fire Department says they were called shortly before 11:40 AM to 422 29th Southwest, where on arrival fire crews found light smoke venting from the structure. Firefighters discovered the fire was located in the kitchen and they worked quickly to extinguish the fire and as well performed an overhaul to prevent an extension of the fire.
All occupants of the home escaped the house prior to the fire department’s arrival on the scene.
Fire Marshal Jamey Medlin says an investigation of the fire revealed it to be accidental in nature, caused by a candle.
The fire department remained on the scene for slightly longer than an hour.
