Cross Country — TIC meet today features ranked teams, runners; Mason City competes at Alliance Conference

MASON CITY — A number of ranked teams and individuals will take part in the Top of Iowa Conference cross country meet today on the NIACC campus in Mason City.  Top-ranked in Class 1A Lake Mills is the favorite in the boys team competition, while #3 in 2A Forest City is the favorite on the girls side. Looking at area ranked teams and individuals that will be competing in today’s competition:

 

== 2A boys

– Teams — #7 Forest City; #9 Garner-Hayfield-Ventura

– Individuals — #8 Zach Flatebo, GHV; #20 Jonah Pringnitz, GHV

– Teams — #1 Lake Mills, #18 Newman

– Individuals — #1 Gavin Grunhovd, North Iowa; #6 Knute Rogne, Lake Mills; #9 Hayden Thompson, Lake Mills; #15 Kade Van Roekel, Lake Mills; #17 Ezra Almelien, North Butler; #23 Stephen Brandenburg, Lake Mills

– Teams — #3 Forest City; #19 Osage

– Individuals — #6 Lauren Hillesland, North Iowa; #24 Kadence Huck, Nashua-Plainfield; #29 Lila Powers, St. Ansgar

 

MARSHALLTOWN — The Mason City High girls cross country team finished third overall while the boys finished fourth at the Iowa Alliance Conference championships held on the Marshalltown Community College course.

 

== In the girls competition, the Riverhawks had four runners finish in the top ten as they ended up with 44 points. Ames and Des Moines Roosevelt both finished with 41 points. Ottumwa finished fourth in the team race 100 points behind Mason City. For the Riverhawks, Janae Hansen finished third in a time of 19:39, almost 50 second behind the race winner Claire Helmers of Ames. Savannah Davis was sixth in a time of 20:06, Leah Dykstra was eighth in 20:31 and Paizlee Carter was ninth in 20:36. 

 

== In the boys competition, Ames won the team title with 36 points, Marshalltown was second with 48, Des Moines Roosevelt was third with 78, while Mason City was fourth with 118 points. Henry Hansen had Mason City’s best finish, placing ninth with a time of 16:37.
