Most of state in Red Flag Warning today

MASON CITY — Most of the state of Iowa is under a Red Flag Warning today. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
The National Weather Service says today will have very high to extreme fire danger conditions with winds gusting 35 to near 45 miles per hour in the northern and western portions of the state, and 25 to 35 miles per hour in the southern and eastern parts of Iowa. Relative humidity values during the daytime hours will be quite low, ranging from 15 to 25%.
The greatest fire danger will be in areas of dry vegetation and cropland where the harvest has yet to be completed.
