Clear Lake council to consider renewing electric, natural gas franchise agreements with Alliant

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council tonight is being asked to approve electric and natural gas franchise renewal agreements with Alliant Energy.
Representatives from Alliant were at the council’s September 3rd City Council meeting and reviewed their request to renew the agreements. The council at their last meeting on October 7th set tonight as the time for the public hearing on the renewal agreements as well as approved a resolution approving and adopting a revenue purpose statement for the use or expenditure of revenues from an electric and natural gas franchise fee.
That allows the city to have in place a 1% city franchise fee that would replace a 1% countywide local option sales tax connected to electric and natural gas bills, meaning that more money would be staying in Clear Lake.
The council meets tonight at 5:30 at Clear Lake City Hall
