Cerro Gordo County First District supervisor candidates discuss issues tonight on NorthIowaNow.com

MASON CITY — A reminder that tonight we’ll have the first of two candidate programs featuring those running for the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors. Tonight it will be the First District candidates discussing the issues.
Republican incumbent Chris Watts of Mason City is being challenged by Democrat Tim Lapointe of Mason City for the seat that includes all of Mason City’s Third Ward; Ward Two Precinct Two; and Ward Four Precincts Two and Three.
Watts says he’s running for his final term and he says he wants to finish what was started by the supervisors a few years ago. “My two former colleagues, Mr. Latham and Mr. Callanan and I sat down and came up with a game plan on fixing the infrastructure in this county which has been greatly overlooked for many years. That’s what attracts new industry and businesses to the county and adds to the tax base. We’ve done a pretty good job of doing so, we still have some unfinished business. I want to see our plan through and I’m willing to work with whomever is elected here.”
Lapointe says he’ll keep to his party’s values but work in a bipartisan way. “I am a progressive Democrat and I don’t try to hide my political affiliation. I was raised with an emphasis on social conscious and support of the poor. I don’t think that local politics needs to be partisan. I promise to reach across the aisle to get things done. I have a strong track record of doing this at the state, local and county level, and I want to bring this strong bipartisan approach to leadership in Cerro Gordo County.”
