Man from Manly sentenced to two years in federal prison for being unlawful drug user possessing gun

SIOUX CITY — A Worth County man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being an unlawful drug user who possessed a firearm.

The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says 33-year-old Cory More from Manly was sentenced earlier this week after pleading guilty in June to one count of possession of a firearm by a drug user.

As part of a plea agreement, More admitted that in October of last year, his vehicle ran out of gas in Clear Lake, with a police officer making contact with more outside of his vehicle. The officer saw two marijuana baggies between his feet and More’s. More also had a handgun in a holster on his belt in plain view of the officer.

Law enforcement later executed a search warrant at More’s home in Manly and seized marijuana, scales, drug paraphernalia and an additional 16 firearms and ammunition.

More was sentenced by US District Court Judge Leonard Strand on Tuesday to 24 months in prison to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
