1A, 2A cross country state qualifying meets held Thursday

MANLY — FULL GIRLS RESULTS — FULL BOYS RESULTS — The Lake Mills boys won the team title at the 1A state qualifying cross country meet in Manly on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs had 34 team points, with St. Edmond second with 80 and North Butler third with 95. Gavin Grunhovd of North Iowa won the boys race in a time of 16:13. On the girls side, Madrid finished first in the team race with 37 points, with Wapsie Valley being second and St. Edmond third. Katelyn Brandhorst of Madrid won the girls race in 19:11. The top local state qualifier was Lauren Hillesland of North Iowa who finished sixth in a time of 19:59.
JEWELL — FULL GIRLS RESULTS — FULL BOYS RESULTS — The West Fork boys finished third and did not qualify as a team for the state meet from the 1A qualifier at Jewell. Ankeny Christian placed four in the top six to win the girls team title with 28 points. Baxter was second with 101 points followed by West Fork with 132. The West Fork girls finished 10th with Martensdale St. Marys taking the team title.
MONTICELLO — FULL GIRLS RESULTS — FULL BOYS RESULTS — The Osage girls finished fifth and the boys finished seventh at the 2A qualifier in Monticello. Scarlett Byrnes finished third in the girls race in a time of 18:54. Nicholas Messersmith had the Osage boys best finish, placing 28th in a time of 18:15.
OELWEIN — FULL GIRLS RESULTS — FULL BOYS RESULTS — Both of Forest City’s cross country teams qualified for the state meet at the 2A qualifier in Oelwein. The boys finished second with 59 points, with host Oelwein winning with 39. Silan Gann had Forest City’s best finish, placing eighth in a time of 17:31. The Forest City girls tied with Crestwood for second place with 76 points, but the Cadets won the tiebreaker. Claire Weaver had Forest City’s best finish, placing fifth in a time of 20:45.
ORANGE CITY — FULL GIRLS RESULTS — FULL BOYS RESULTS — The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys finished third while the girls finished fourth at the 2A qualifier in Orange City. The Cardinal boys finished third with 78 points. Spirit Lake edged out host Unity Christian by one point to take the team title. Zach Flatebo finished as runner-up with a time of 16:09. The Cardinal girls had 135 points, with Unity Christian winning with 33 points. Hailey Hansen had GHV’s best finish, placing seventh in a time of 20:35.
