High school football playoffs start tonight for local Class A, 2A teams — Clear Lake looking to improve playoff position

— The first round of the high school football playoffs in Classes 2A, 1A, A, and Eight-Player are tonight. Looking at the games involving area teams:

Hartley-Melvin Sanborn at West Hancock

Newman at Nashua-Plainfield

South Winneshiek at St. Ansgar

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake hosts Charles City in their final regular season game. The Lions will finish in third place in Class 3A District 2 but are still in the playoff hunt as they are the #15 team in the Ratings Percentage Index. Charles City won their first three games of the season but have lost five straight. MASON CITY — The Mason City Riverhawks finish up the season traveling to Epworth to face Western Dubuque. The Riverhawks are coming off of a 33-29 win against Marion and will face a Western Dubuque team that dropped a 10-7 decision to Decorah last week.
