Soybean harvest nearly completed, corn harvest almost done in north-central Iowa
DES MOINES — The soybean harvest in Iowa is almost completed while the corn harvest is nearing completion. That’s according to the USDA’s crop report for Iowa released on Monday.
96% of the state’s soybeans have been harvested. The north-central crop reporting district reported 99% of the soybean harvest was complete. Northwest Iowa was also at the 99% mark, west-central was at 98% while northeast Iowa was at 97%.
USDA ag statistician Melissa Couch says corn harvest statewide has jumped from 84% this past week compared to 68% the week before. “Corn harvest for grain reached 84% statewide, almost a week ahead of last year and 12 days ahead of the five-year average. South-central farmers still have 34% of their corn for grain remaining to harvest, while farmers have already harvested 91% in north-central Iowa. Moisture content of field corn being harvested was 14%.”
Last Thursday’s quick shot of rain didn’t hamper farmers in north-central Iowa, as they had 6.8 days suitable for field work.
