Parents reminded to keep kids safe during Trick-or-Treating

CLEAR LAKE — Trick-or-treating in both Mason City and Clear Lake will take place on the night of October 31st.
Clear Lake police officer Brandon Heinz says parents can help out on that night in trying to keep their kids safe. “Travel in groups. Try to wear some reflective clothing if you can. Bring a flashlight with you. Parents should probably be checking their kids’ candy, make sure what they’re getting handed to them is something safe they should be eating.”
Heinz says food safety is important for your kids. “There’s a lot of allergies and things like that. Kids probably just grab whatever out of their bag when they get home and just start eating. Definitely want to check that just to make sure it is something safe, something you do want your kid to be eating.”
Both communities have set their trick-or-treat times to run from 5:30 to 7:30 on October 31st.
