Mason City woman walking along Interstate 35 killed when struck by truck Saturday morning

CLEAR LAKE — A Mason City woman walking along the interstate near Clear Lake early Saturday morning was killed when she was hit by a box truck.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened shortly after 1:15 Saturday morning in the southbound lanes at the 194 mile marker of Interstate 35. The State Patrol says the victim, 59-year-old Michelle Schutz, and another unnamed person were walking along the interstate when Schutz was struck by the truck driven by 60-year-old Henry Moss Junior of Des Moines.

Schutz was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. Moss continued southbound on the interstate and was later located by a state trooper near Des Moines.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Clear Lake Fire Department at the scene.
