Michelle “Shelley” (Clark) Schutz, 59, Mason City

Michelle “Shelley” (Clark) Schutz, 59, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Shelley was born to David and Julie (Bowers) Clark on August 22, 1965 in Mason City, IA.  She spent her early years in Charles City before the family settled Mason City. Shelley graduated from Mason City High School and later married Dave Schutz, with whom she shared a life in Mason City before their eventual separation.

Shelley spent many years working in sales with Farner-Bocken Company. She had a true “gift of gab” and thrived on meeting new people, always enjoying a good conversation and visiting with friends. Shelley’s vibrant personality made her well-loved by colleagues, clients, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

An avid lover of dogs and a talented artist, Shelley’s creative spirit found an outlet in her acrylic paintings, where she brought her unique artistic vision to life. She took great pride in decorating for Christmas, creating a magical atmosphere each holiday season. Shelley also had a passion for flower gardening, bringing beauty to her yard and fountain with each bloom.

Shelley adored spending time with her grandchildren when she was able, whose laughter and energy brought her great joy. She had a special fondness for little children and delighted in being a loving presence in their lives.

Shelley is survived by her parents, David Clark and Julie Fountas; stepson, Paul (Ashley) Schutz; grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, and Mason; aunts, Lois (Art) LeBhn, Linda Bowers, Patsy Benner, and Donna Trebil; and numerous cousins, friends, and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Leonard and Betty Bowers and Grandpa Bob Kuhn; step father, John Fountas; former husband, Dave Schutz; and many aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Friday, November 8, 2024 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Mark Doebel officiating.  Shelley’s family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 until 3:00 at the funeral home on Friday.
