Omaha man arrested for meth distribution in Cerro Gordo County sentenced to prison

CLEAR LAKE — An Omaha man who pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge after being arrested earlier this year in Cerro Gordo County has been sentenced to over ten years in prison.

39-year-old Jose Velez was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty back in June to one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Velez admitted that on February 23rd he knowingly possessed with the intent to distribute 14 pounds of a mixture or substance containing  detectable amount of meth.

US District Judge Leonard Strand sentenced Velez today to 126 months in prison to be followed by a five-year term of supervised release. There’s no parole in the federal prison system.
