Veterans Day ceremony to be held on Monday in Mason City

MASON CITY — Veterans Day is Monday. The Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will be holding their annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday.
Mayor Bill Schickel read a proclamation at this week’s council meeting and presented it to Association chair Randy Solsaa, who is retired after 23 years of service in the United States Navy. “Our community is filled with heroes like Randy who have stepped forward at a time of need. Everyone is invited to pay tribute to our veterans this Monday, 10:30 at Central Park. There will be a special ceremony by the Veterans Memorial Association. Also, HyVee will be serving breakfast on Veterans Day early in the morning. I’ll be serving from 8:00 to 9:00. I look forward to seeing you. Find a veteran in your life and offer thanks.”
Monday will mark 20 years since the Central Park monument to veterans was dedicated.
City offices in Mason City will be closed on Monday with city sanitation services being moved to Wednesday. City transit buses will be operating with free rides being provided for all active military and veterans as well as law enforcement, firefighters and emergency services personnel to thank them for their service.
