Hinson says no interest in House leadership position

WASHINGTON — North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she’s not interested in a House leadership position.
Hinson was considered to potentially be a contender for the House GOP conference chair after news broke on Monday that New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik was being tabbed as President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to be the US Ambassador to the United Nations.
Hinson this fall was utilized as a surrogate by Trump and House GOP leadership and campaigned in numerous states to support Republicans on the ballot. Hinson though took herself out of the discussion on Monday with a written statement, saying that she was humbled by her colleagues that they would consider her for the important post, but that she was not running for a leadership position.
Hinson says her focus is on serving Iowa’s Second Congressional District and working to ensure Trump’s agenda is carried out.
The House GOP conference chair is in charge of party messaging for the caucus.
