Iowa harvest winding down

DES MOINES — The harvest is winding down across the state but farmers have still been busy in the field.

USDA Iowa ag statistician Melissa Couch says besides harvesting grain, farmers have still been busy completing fall field work as conditions allow. “Iowa’s farmers had an average of 3.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 17th. Primary fieldwork activities included fall tillage, fertilizer applications and some row crop harvest. Corn harvested for grain reached 97% statewide. Livestock producers continue to deal with muddy feedlots.”

There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork in the north-central crop reporting district.
