Mason City woman pleads guilty to lascivious acts, sentenced to 20 years in prison

MASON CITY — A Mason City woman accused of sexual abuse has now entered into a plea agreement and been sentenced to 20 years of prison time.

23-year-old Destiny Murphy was accused of committing a sexual act with a child under the age of 14 on more than one occasion between April 2021 and April of this year.

Murphy was arrested on September 22nd and charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Murphy originally filed a written plea of not guilty to the charge, but as part of a plea deal with prosecutors agreed to plead guilty to two counts of lascivious acts with a child, each a Class C felony.

District Judge Blake Norman on Tuesday sentenced Murphy to ten years in prison on each charge, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
