Carl Ginapp wins by three votes in Cerro Gordo County supervisors race after recount

MASON CITY — In one of the closest margins of victory in an election for a Cerro Gordo County official, Republican challenger Carl Ginapp defeated incumbent Democrat Lori Meacham Ginapp by a three vote margin after a recount was held today.
Carl Ginapp held a two-vote lead prior to the recount. In the recount, Ginapp lost one vote cast in Ward 1 Precinct 3 on Election Day that today was counted as an undervote, but Ginapp gained back a three vote lead when all the absentee ballots were recounted for a final tally of a 3108-3105 victory.
Two years ago in this same race, Lori Meacham Ginapp beat Don O’Connor by five votes.
The Board of Supervisors will meet in a special session on Tuesday to officially canvass the recount vote and declare Carl Ginapp the winner.
