Mason City woman pleads guilty to theft

MASON CITY — A Mason City woman originally charged with robbery has now pleaded guilty to a theft charge as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

A criminal complaint states 47-year-old Heather Glaser allegedly assaulted another woman and then stole her boots, cell phone and necklace at about 11:40 on the night of November 5th in the 800 block of South Federal Avenue. The complaint states that the alleged victim threw her cell phone at Glaser as she was coming toward her to shove her, and after shoving her, Glaser took the other items, which were later found in Glaser’s truck.

Glaser was charged with second-degree robbery and was due in court for her arraignment hearing later today, but court records show she filed a written plea of guilty on Friday to first-degree theft, a Class C felony. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a suspended ten-year prison sentence. A sentencing date was not immediately set.
