Corn harvest all but complete according to final crop report of 2024

DES MOINES — The 2024 harvest in the state of Iowa is all but done according to the final crop report of the growing season from the United States Department of Agriculture.

USDA Iowa ag statistician Melissa Couch says rain did have some impact on final field work. “Rain along with snow showers in the northeast and north central parts of the state allowed Iowa’s farmers an average of 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 24th. Field activities slowed down this week with reports of fall tillage and fertilizer and manure applications wrapping up. Corn harvested for grain is virtually complete.”

In the north-central crop reporting district there were 4.6 days suitable for field work this past week. Soil moisture conditions improved slightly with 34% of topsoil moisture being dry or very dry and 57% of subsoil moisture being dry or very dry in north-central Iowa.
