Mason City Police Department once again offering Holiday Package Delivery program

MASON CITY — The Mason City Police Department is once again offering their holiday package program.

Police Chief Jeff Brinkley says it’s an attempt to avoid package thefts from porches as people can send their packages to the police department for pickup during normal business hours.  “Now through December 23rd, you can ship your package to the Police Department 78 South Georgia Avenue, Mason City Iowa, 50401, and put your name on the package. So it’s coming there but it has your name on it, and it shows up. When you come in to get it, bring your photo ID with you to claim it. We’re there during normal business hours. You can contact Courtney Moretz, she’s our crime victim specialist, if you need to arrange for an after-hours or Saturday morning pickup, we can work that out.”

Brinkley says it’s the fourth year they’ve provided the service and he says it’s been a success.  “We had 80-some packages last year, so I’m hoping we’ll get over 100 this year. I think we had one lady last year shipped everything to the PD, she absolutely loved it. I think too it’s a different reason for people to walk through our doors for something positive. I think it’s just a great chance for us to interact with the community in a whole new way and it’s been a super positive thing.”

If you have any other questions about the program, you can contact Moretz at 641-494-3591.
