City of Mason City honors volunteers

MASON CITY — The City of Mason City on Thursday hosted its 21st annual Volunteer Recognition Award Banquet at the MacNider Art Museum. The event honored around 60 volunteers for their work on behalf of the city’s Volunteer Service Department on various projects including Adopt-A-Street, Adopt-A-Lot, Beautification, Parks, MacNider Museum events, Highland Golf Course, and other special projects. Among those recognized:

 

== The “Shining Star Award”, which is annually awarded to individuals and teams or businesses that contribute to the needs of the city, was given to Jennifer Mericle and Tracy Wynn. Mericle volunteers her time at the MacNider Art Museum while Wynn has coached for many years for Recreation Department programs

 

== The “Shining Star Team” recognition was awarded to the Mutchler family for several projects they did at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery

 

== The “Rookie of the Year” award was presented to Matt Curtis. He’s a new volunteer to the city and has volunteered extensive time on the trails and outdoor recreation activities in the community

 

== The “Going the Extra Mile” award was presented to former city operations and maintenance manager Bill Stangler for his many years of service to projects and the volunteer program he supported over the years

 

City Council members were present to help celebrate the contributions volunteers make to the city. Mayor Bill Schickel gave his appreciation and thanks to the volunteers and city staff members assisted in presenting the awards.
