Cerro Gordo supervisors to finalize amendment to ban large-scale wind, solar, battery development

MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors today will finalize the language and set a public hearing for an amendment to an ordinance that would ban future large-scale industrial-grade development of wind turbines, solar energy, or battery storage facilities in the county.

The supervisors last week accepted a 100-page report from the county’s Planning & Zoning Commission after the commission had held numerous public hearings earlier in the year to help study the issue, with the report having the recommendation that there not be future large-scale developments in the county.

The supervisors will review the draft of the amendment during a workshop session at 9:00 AM, and then at their regularly-scheduled weekly meeting at 10:00 AM set a public hearing on the amendment and have its first consideration at their December 23rd meeting.
