Grassley tells FBI director it’s time to move on, meets with Trump pick to lead bureau

WASHINGTON — Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is calling on FBI Director Christopher Wray as well as Deputy Director Paul Abbate to accept accountability for their failed leadership at the bureau. Grassley sent an 11-page letter on Monday expressing no confidence in the leadership of the FBI.

In an interview with Northiowanow.com News, Grassley says there’s plenty of examples of Wray’s failings. “Well it could be the treatment of whistleblowers. It could be the unanswered letters and the investigations I have going on. It could be the number of documents that I’ve asked for that I have not received. It could be his being called before a House committee two weeks ago and he refused to go, and that’s even after every nominee says they will appear if they are asked to appear.”

Grassley met later on Monday afternoon with Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel. “President-elect Trump has made very clear he wants a new FBI director, and that’s best demonstrated by Mr. Patel being chosen for that position.”

Grassley will chair the Senate Judiciary Committee where Patel will have a hearing on his nomination.
