Winter Weather Advisory tonight into tomorrow — mixed precipitation could cause travel hazards

MASON CITY — The entire state of Iowa is under a Winter Weather Advisory for this afternoon until Saturday midday.

The National Weather Service says locally, mixed precipitation is expected, with total ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch, and snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous.

Plan on slick, and even treacherous road conditions tonight into Saturday morning. Branches and power lines may become ice coated, and with winds from the east-southeast at 10 to 20 miles per hour, could cause tree limbs to break or power outages to occur.

If you plan to be outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

You can keep up to date with road conditions by heading under the weather tab at northiowanow.com.

In east-central Iowa including Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, an Ice Storm Warning is in effect from tonight to Saturday afternoon as higher ice accumulations are expected in those areas.
