Plymouth man accused of sexual abuse pleads guilty to lesser charge

MASON CITY — A Plymouth man facing a sexual abuse charge has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
The Mason City Police Department filed a third-degree sexual abuse charge in May 2022 against 26-year-old Grebil Valasquez-Bejarano after an alleged assault in November 2021.
A criminal complaint states that Valasquez-Bejarano performed sexual acts to a victim that was physically incapacitated and physically helpless in a home in southeastern Mason City in the early morning hours of November 24th, 2021. Police say a DNA analysis confirmed Valasquez-Bejarano’s presence.
After being wanted by authorities for over two years, Valasquez-Bejarano was arrested on September 18th.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge, but on Monday, he filed a written plea of guilty to one count of assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse causing bodily injury, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Valasquez-Bejarano is scheduled to be sentenced on February 17th.
